Apertura 10" f/4 Imaging Newtonian OTA

The 10" f/4 Imaging Newtonian OTA from Apertura is a versatile telescope, equipped with everything you need for wide-field imaging of deep space.

The optical tube is 38.5" long and made of rolled steel for added durability. The large aperture of 10" is perfect for capturing deep space views. This OTA also has a diameter of 11-7/8", weighing 29.25lb without the finder.

The OTAs interior has been painted black with a matte finish which aids in diminishing reflection. The Newtonian OTA has a center-spotted parabolic primary mirror. The four secondary mirror vanes are as thin as possible while maintaining stability. Equipped with diffraction-limited optics, the parabolic primary mirror is housed in an aluminum cell fitted with six "push/pull" collimation knobs so that you can collimate without tools!

The Apertura 10" f/4 OTA weighs just about 30 pounds and will require a mount that can handle a pretty substantial payload. A good option would be the Celestron CGE Pro or CGX, the Losmandy G11, the Paramount, or the Meade LX850. The 10" Newtonian OTA also has a dovetailed finder adapter attached and accepts the included 50mm finderscope bracket. An 8x50 straight-through optical finderscope slides easily into this bracket.

Sometimes it seems to take forever for your telescope to cool to ambient temperature. As an added bonus, the High Point 8" f/4 Imaging Newtonian has a built-in cooling fan will help get your imaging faster! This low-vibration fan is mounted on the primary mirror cell and is powered by a battery pack that holds eight (8) AA batteries (batteries not included).

    Camera Capabilities

You can easily attach a 35mm DSLR camera, webcam, or CCD/CMOS imaging camera and be confident in the mechanical build of the High Point 10" f/4 Newtonian.

    Focuser

The OTA includes a dual-speed 3.3" Crayford focuser, featuring linear bearings that create a sturdy draw tube and reduce drag under heavy loads. Achieve focus with the larger of the two knobs, and then tweak your focus with the small 1:10 micro-focusing knob. The two other knobs on the focuser are a tension knob, allowing adjustments for the drag on the draw tube to match the weight of the load, and a focuser lock. The draw tube has 2" of travel and has a focusing scale marked on the top to help you come back to the same focus point again and again. There is less wear on the focuser draw-tube, less flexure, and more rigidity due to design differences that support the drive rail and draw-tube along the length of travel instead of at a few contact points. A 3.3" to 2" and 2" to 1.25" compression ring adapters are included as standard equipment.

    Mounting the 10" Newtonian

The 10" Newtonian can be attached to a wide variety of equatorial mounts. A pair of felt-lined split tube rings are included with the OTA. These rings can be attached by using either the Vixen-sized dovetail that is included or add your own Losmandy-style dovetail plate to the rings (sold separately). If you will be attaching this optical tube assembly to heavy-duty mount, you may require the larger Losmandy-style dovetail, which is sold separately.
